Dear Customers,
AI (Artificial Intelligence) is a growing presence in the water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) sector. Some of you are actively working on AI projects, tools, technologies, and capabilities in WASH. Others are not entirely certain about the pluses and minuses of AI in WASH.
What we do know is AI is increasingly being applied to address WASH challenges. This is especially pertinent in resource-constrained or climate-vulnerable areas. Key applications of AI in WASH include water quality monitoring and prediction, infrastructure maintenance, wastewater and sanitation management, predictive analytics and disaster management, resource optimization and efficiency, and knowledge management.
All of this potential comes with its own set of challenges and considerations in terms of ethics, data quality and bias, data access, and adoption.
This newsletter points to resources that might help us better understand AI in the WASH sector and prominent actors involved in this space.
